Stolen track went viral under someone else's name.

    Posted by fearing - June 29th, 2021

So I just logged into my soundcloud and realised that I could see what playlists my tracks were included in. I noticed one was just 2 tracks, one was my original track and then this other version that had over a million listens. Apparently some dude named junkoネ had shared my track here:

    https://soundcloud.com/masterofzark/i-got-chills-23-vaporwave?in=user-851697204/sets/i-got-chills

and this is my original track. No samples, all recorded by myself:

    https://soundcloud.com/yokotemple/i-got-chills

And I've just done some searching and realised it got shared all over twitter and god knows where else all under this dudes name. I feel sick. Someone's stolen my work and everyone has associated it with someone else.

Don't know why I'm posting here, just feel a bit violated if I'm honest. I don't make much money from my day job and I've usually just made this kind of stuff out of passion, and seeing someone exploit that and take credit just made me feel a bit sick, like I wan't to delete everything from the internet and never share anything again. Maybe some other people may have had the same thing happen?

    Truly despair inducing...
But if I were to say my input from experience, this is definitely a thing that's common with any kind of artist, let alone music.
The way I see it, you could try and spread the message that you, yourself, made it. Though if you don't want to do that, that's okay, too.
On the bright side, they deleted the re-upload.

I think it's just because it's the first time it's happened to me on this scale where they made a million views off it. And I've struggled to break 500 on most things I make. I appreciate the words of advice, thank you.

@shintsukimi205 @fearing You're welcome, though at least to me, if a million views could be reached with that very track, I'm sure that you, the original producer, could soon break 500 and beyond.

that sucks ass bro. looks like Junko's link has been removed. good for you. it sucks that you got robbed. it does happen rather commonly among small artists in such genres. i report folks every week on this platform reuploading electro music. at least you know that the song, and hopefully others, are really worth marketing.
